She may not have taken home the Award for Best actress, not surprisingly she was pipped to the post by Meryl Streep, but since the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday evening she has dominated every Best Dressed list circulating the web! She may not have gone home with the gold prince this time, but she sure was the belle of the ball!! She certainly made sure her attendance at the 2012 Oscars would not go unnoticed or forgotten!! Check out her incredible haute couture Givenchy gown...which rumour has it was expressly made especially for her (wow.)
Layers of delicious white lace, and that incredible almost shell like bust detail made for a bridal mermaid type feel to her Oscars look!! It looked exquisite!! And teamed with that sharp and slick hair-do and her porcelain pretty make up - which has quickly become her iconic look the last few months - it's not hard to she why she topped the best dressed lists! However, many were surprised to see her shy away from her dark red carpet image she has favoured recently, and lighten her look in this off white piece!! But nobody could disagree she looked Oscar worthy!!
She wasn't the only celeb who appeared in the Best Dressed lists...
And Rooney's sister, Kate Mara, all looked gorgeous too!!
But it just wouldn't be the Oscars without a few fashion faux pas...
& Viola Davis!!
I have four words for you...WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?!?!
I know my Oscars update is a little late, but I hope it was worth the wait!!
So spring is fast approaching and judging by the catwalks and 'Topshop' of course it's all about bold prints this spring/summer!! There's no point in trying to run away from them, they are everywhere and they're pretty hard to resist!! It's time to get bold and colourful with your choices! Have a little fun and get your print well and truly on!! Check out a few of my favourites from Topshop.com!!!!
I have this jacket!! Isn't it absolutely fab!! Look at that detail on the back! Versace eat your heart out!!
This is so pretty! And it's a gorgeous shape!! It's a knock out piece! Love it!
WOW!! I have my eyes firmly on this for summer!! It's fab! Perfect Marilyn Monroe shape!! And I just love the daffodils!!
Strong shape! Great colour! And this cool envelope design layered on top of the dots is pretty awesome too!!
Loving the detail at the bottom of this mid length dress!! It's got a vintage feel!! It's pretty and very summery!
Again here's that print!! I've been eying this up for the past week!! I love the long back and the sheer material is perfect for summer! Teamed with a bandeau and a pair of shorts I'm ready to hit the beach!!
Very 70s!! I can just picture this teamed with a floopy hat and some massive knock out circular shades!
So cute!! I just love these!!
This is fab! I am in love with the contrast between the purple and green!! It's simple but it's the kind of piece that will look amazing on!! And it's got a cute neck line!! I love this!!
Wow!! I have a list as long as my arm ready for a not so impromptu pre-work shopping trip tomorrow!! Hell Yeah, it's so on!!
I can't believe it's the Oscar's tonight already, it seems like the Award season has come and gone in the blink of an eye!! Of course all eyes are firmly set of the awards for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress, and this year these categories seem particularly strong!!
Now I'm routing for Rooney Mara for the Best Actress Award, she gave an absolutely blinding performance in 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'!! But it seems that she has received little credit for her transformation and immersion into the role of Lisbeth Salander...ok, so maybe I'm being a little untrue with my words here...she was nominated for a Golden Globe (which she didn't win) and an Oscar... But all fingers seem to be pointing at either Meryl Streep or Viola Davis to take home that gong!! I mean what's the point of a nomination if you're not really in the running!?It's not fair!! It's just unlucky that it's a tough category this year! I mean...let's transport ourselves to a parallel universe for a little while, one where 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' came out in 2010 rather than 2011 and Mara was nominated for the 2011 Best Actress Oscar...her competition would have been Annette Bening, Nicole Kidman, Jenifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams...and remember Natalie Portman took home the award!! Come on...Mara would have won hands down that year!! Natalie Portman's performance in 'Black Swan' was not worthy of an Oscar, I hated the film and didn't rate her performance what so ever!! The category last year was nothing compared to this year!! Mara gave a stunning performance and I think she truly deserves to win tonight...but everyone seems to have completely ruled her and Glenn Close out of the running!! Ok, so sure Meryl Streep did a spectacular job portraying the Iron Lady from what of heard, and Viola Davis had the audience in tears in 'The Help' but I bet neither of them had their nipple pierced for the role...ehhh!? That's dedication right there! Mara kicked some serious ass as Lisbeth Salander and I want to see her take the Best Actress gong!! Who's with me...!?
Well, well, well... it seems that the Claire's Accessories copy cat scandal has hit the news when it featured in Yesterdays Metro!! The high street brand Claire's Accessories, who was accused by Jewellery designer Tatty Devine of nicking their designs in a blog post posted on Wednesday, has been publicly shamed by Tatty Devine supporters, who having read the 'Spot The Difference' post, took to the web to express their disgust at Claire's blatant plagiarism - posting angry messages on both their Facebook and Twitter pages...it was even trending on twitter at one point!! Ouch...that's gotta hurt! I wouldn't like to be creative director of Claire's right about now!! But if you are gonna go around nicking other peoples ideas what do you expect eh? It's not on! I think they may have got the message by now, having already withdrawn a couple of the accused items from their stores! Do not mess with Tatty fans...they will take to the web and publicly shame you in London's number one free paper! That's how we roll! Be warned!! Well done guys for making a stand!!
It appears that the high street jewellery brand 'Claire's Accessories' have a lot to answer for when it comes to where they've been getting all their inspiration as of late!! Check out this blog post by 'Tatty Devine' who have fallen victim to Claire's Accessories blatant copy-cat behaviour!!
Here's Tatty Devine's fishbone necklace (which I myself bought for my best friend back in 2008)
And here's Claire's version, which is available to buy in store currently!
There's definitely something 'Fishy' going on, and it appears that Claire's-Copy-Cat has run off with this fishbone firmly between it's teeth! They haven't even attempted to make any alterations to the design of their own version!! This is blatant plagiarism and is totally unacceptable! I urge you to spread the word and make a stand against this kind of Copy-Cat behaviour!!
It's been quite a while since I've posted a little Blast from the Past track, but thanks to Channel 4's 'Freshly Squeezed' this morning I was reminded of a rather classic 1990s hit by Sweedish rockers 'The Cardigans'!! The sun is sining outside for once, I've got the windows open and I'm about to blast 'My Favourite Game' why not join me! Enjoy!!
I haven't heard this song in such a long time! It takes me back to my early mornings bussing it on the number 75 bus route into colllege!! Thanks to my mate Barbara for that Christmas 2008 mixed-CD, that contained this song, it made that unbearable journey bearable so thanks! Taking me back with 'Devil' it's the Video Nasties...give it a listen, it's awesome!
This song has literally been going around and around my head for the last couple of days! Noramally I would have complaints because usually if a songs stuck in my head it's beacause it's got an annoying hook! But this track I have to admit is rather good and there's really only one things that bothers me about...and that's that the dude sounds exactly like 'Sting'! I was convinced it was him the first time I heard it, and part of me is still convinced that it is!! Seriously, this dude must be able to throw voices because if I close my eyes Sting is in the room!! BBC Radio2 have called it Sting meets the XTC...now, I'm not sure about that but it's defo the love child of Sting and someone!?? Any suggests!? Give it a listen and see what you can come up with!! Here it is...Goyte with 'Somebody That I Used To Know'!!
I thought that I would share with all you guys who disassociate yourselves with the world of Twitter and there for do not follow Antonia Thomas (well, unless you mean in the more literal sense of the word...creeps) some photographs that she and her actress friend Gemma Chan have posted...and without further ado...enjoy!!
That burger looks amazing even me the Vegetarian must admit! Yum!
Disappointing I know! Appear to be spending more time with Michelle the tortoise than hanging out with all the celebs and hitting the each!! Weird! haha!!
It's been a while since I've provided you guys with a good misfix, but forgive me it's been two months since series three ended and there isn't much goss out there for us abandoned misfitties! But finally I have something worth (well kind of) a mention!! So, without further ado I'll cut to the chase!!
If like me you follow Antonia Thomas on Twitter then you will already know that she has jet-setted off to LA for a couple of weeks and yesterday posted a photograph of Michelle the tortoise who lives in the garden of her LA pad!! Haven't seen it...?? Not to worry, here at 'John, Grab Your Anorak' we always deliver the goods...check it out below!
Aside from the cute tortoise and Antonia's totally unorganised suitcase, I couldn't help noticing that pink cardigan lying on top of her suitcase there!! Recognise it!!?? Hmmmm...
Oh look...there it is!!
And once more!!
Looking more familiar now!?! Yes, it looks suspiciously like Alisha's pink cardigan from series three episode three!! Hahaha!! Has somebody been stealing from the set Antonia?? Cheeky! What are you like!? Couldn't resist taking a little souvenir before leaving the Misfits set for good!! Aww that's quite cute really!!
I hope you enjoyed your little misfix! Good night!
Ok ok!! I know it's been a while since I've posted on of these bad boys but it's time to inject some Iwan into your post Valentines-day day!! A couple of days ago he appeared on the Roundhouse's AWAL radio indie special and not surprisingly I guess that many of you, like myself, missed it! But fear not I happen to be an exceptionally kind person and have decided to share the link with you curtesy of the Roundhouse website!! So why not drop whatever it is you're doing and give it a listen! (WARNING: the presenter is rather irritating...from pronouncing his name wrong to dissing his EP version of 'changing times'. and her voice is rather grating! But it's worth sitting through to hear the wonderful Iwan!) Here's the link or you can find the interview embedded at the bottom of this page!
Seeing as it's a radio interview, we don't actually get any Iwan action!! So here he is looking dashing!!
Seeing as I can't bare to spend anymore money this month, I thought it was about time a did a spot of window shopping via Topshop.com and create a little wish list!! It's like my favourite pastime, and it's been a while since I've done it!! So I thought I would share my first for 2012 with you! Here's my Feb 2012 wish list, may this be the first of many!!
Black and gold! SO in right now!
Cleopatra coming at yah!
I am absolutely loving the 'Unique' range for Topshop!! It's fab! A little expensive I might add, but they are knock out pieces! The above dress is gorgeous, I'm not sure that this photo does it justice! But take my word for it!
Burglar Bill! I love the jail-house chick!!
Loving this cute 1950s style sun dress! It might be snowing outside, but I can feel the sun rays just looking at this number! It's adorable!!
Love this! It reminds me of a horizon at sea!
This little bra top is cute! Maybe a little early to be thinking about wearing this out, the snow is still coming outside!!
Love the shade of this pleated skirt! And I love the fact that it hangs lower at the back!
Love this pleated cami! So cute! Teamed with a fab figure hugging full length skirt!
These are brill! And the fact that they're called Jasper, which coincidently is also the name of my big fat ginger corgi, makes me love them even more!! They'd look amazing teamed with the 50s sundress above!! Can't wait for summer!! These are a must have from my wish list!!
I feel sufficiently satisfied with my morning window shop!! It's almost like a spent money with out actually having to spend money, or venture out into the cold weather!!
I discovered it about a year and a half ago and it's quite possible the best vintage shop in London (in my opinion)!!!! Never been? Get down there! It's in Waterloo at the end of Lower Marsh street!! It's worth the walk!! It's fab!
Here's a little tune that takes me back a wee while to my younger days!! I didn't realise at the time just how good this tune actually is...hindsight is a genius thing!! Listen up, it's Ms Dynamite with her 2002 hit 'Dy-Na-Mi-Tee'!! Hell yeah, it's a tune! Don't even try and disagree...you'll be singing along!
Putting the 'Fit' into Misfits is our main man Mr Iwan Rheon, and as you may have guessed this post shall be dedicated to him (of course. returning readers you know the deal)! Today I have to say a massive thanks to Yahoo! who have provided us with an exclusive trailer of Iwan's new film 'Wild Bill' which should be hitting our cinemas in March!! I'm sure gonna be there with my popcorn! There's absolutely no way that when March comes around I'm gonna miss Iwan leaving his type cast to play a crack dealing thug!! I can't wait...this is what acting is all about stretching the boundaries of people think you're capable of!! Check the trailer out here! And why not read a review curtesy of The Film Pilgrim! Go on you know you know you want to. It's gonna happen!
How could you deny this face!
Putting the fit into misfits. Putting the Iwan into your dull day.
Jimi has been reborn! This is incredible! Massive thanks to Iwan Rheon for sharing this private link! This has literally made my day. What a talented musician. No words can describe just how talented. His voice is so dreamy! Awww this must be love. Brett you've got soul. You've moved me.
It's been a while I know since I delivered any Misfixes for you hardcore fans out there...but I'm sure you understand how scarce misfits news in the post series 3 climate!! It's tough!! But finally something new has come up and I am incredibly excited about it...! I read about this on twitter at the end of last year, but finally the Coldplay video starring Antonia Thomas for their new track 'Charlie Brown' has hit the web!! Check it out...(I'm not a massive Coldplay fan I have to admit, but if you can bare it for 4minutes then it's worth a watch to see the beautiful Antonia Thomas!)...
Is it just me or does the whole beginning sequence of this video look a little familiar!?? *cough cough...Misfits series two, episode one opening ringing any bells! Superhoodie is in da house once more...and that ain't Simon!! Seriously though...it's a blatant copy - all the parkour moves and jumping off buildings!! They might as well have casted Iwan in the role...that's all I'm saying on the matter!
Todays musical blast from the past comes curtesy of Semisonic and their 1999 hit 'Secret Smile'! It's a tune! It's one of those songs that could totally go unremembered if it wasn't for the occasional radio reminders...so thanks Chris Evans for bringing this song back into my life this morning on bbc radio 2! I didn't realise I missed it until then! Enough with the talk...here it is
